DAWA MAGSEALED

Ferrofluid for Reel Maintenance

A reel-maintenance ferrofluid that preserves the waterproof/dustproof performance of MAGSEALED reels. The ferrofluid stays stably around the magnet inside the reel, reducing the ingress of water, salt, dust, and debris and helping maintain the reel's rotation performance and durability.

Maintains waterproofing

Reduces the penetration of water and salt into the reel.

Blocks dust & debris

Reduces dust and contaminants entering the reel to prevent part damage.

Keeps rotation smooth

Reduces contamination and corrosion of internal parts to keep the reel's rotation smooth.

Which reels is Mag-oil used on?

Mag-oil is a silicone ferrofluid that replenishes the waterproof film in fishing reels built with a MAGSEALED structure. Magnetic particles about 10 nanometres across form an oil ring around the magnet inside the reel, blocking seawater, salt and dust even while it spins. MAGRON is the only manufacturer producing silicone-based ferrofluid, supplied in a 1 ml (1.2 g) dropper bottle.

How is it different from ordinary oil or grease?
Mag-oil is a ferrofluid with magnetic particles dispersed in it, so it is held in place magnetically around the magnet — it does not run off like ordinary oil but stays put and acts as a sealing film. It is also silicone-based rather than the mineral oil used in typical ferrofluids, giving it higher water repellency and better resistance to heat, oxidation and washing.
Why does it need topping up over time?
Repeated contact with water and debris, along with temperature cycling during use, can gradually reduce the ferrofluid or degrade its performance. Topping it up restores the sealing structure.
Which reels does it apply to?
Guidance is based on reels that use the MAGSEALED structure. For reels with a different sealing design, please check applicability first.
How is it applied?
Disassemble the reel to reach the MAGSEALED section, wipe away the old ferrofluid and any debris, apply Mag-oil one drop at a time onto the magnet area, then reassemble. It is done once the ferrofluid forms an oil ring; a how-to video is also provided.

Waterproofing Principle

The MAGSEALED structure keeps ferrofluid between the reel's Rotor Collar (Magnetic body) and the Magnet, reducing water and debris ingress. The ferrofluid held within the magnet's field forms a liquid barrier (Seal Area) around the rotating part.

Even if seawater and salt enter from outside, the ferrofluid layer formed around the Magnet acts as a MAG SHIELD, reducing penetration to internal parts and helping prevent corrosion and contamination of gears, bearings, and the rotating shaft.

How ferrofluid blocks water

1As the magnets are brought closer bit by bit, the ferrofluid attracts and draws together.

2Bringing the magnets even closer unifies the ferrofluid, blocking top and bottom.

3The ferrofluid film blocks the water.

Reel Internal Waterproofing Diagram

Inside the reel are several rotating parts such as the Rotor, Body, and CRBB (Corrosion Resistant Ball Bearing). If seawater or salt enters between these parts, corrosion, noise, increased rotational resistance, and reduced durability can occur.

Without ferrofluid (waterproof ✗), seawater penetrates into the rotor; with ferrofluid applied (waterproof ✓), the ferrofluid film blocks the penetration path and protects the internal parts.
